Meet Lauren

In my life I have always found that trying to describe myself was the hardest thing. I can list it out, but trying to describe myself in full, complete sentences has always been difficult. Maybe because I am a complex person, maybe because I am an artist and no words can really accurately describe me, or possibly I am too many things to try to describe. The one constant thing I know is art. Art is my life. Colors, styles, mediums... Around 10 I had a photoshoot with my dog Molly. Mom wasn’t too happy when she developed several cameras worth of film and they were all the dog in outfits all over the house. When I was 11 I wanted to be an interior designer, setting up gorgeous mansions in different cities. 12 was a little different for me, designing zines on old AOL dialup. I had 3 different ones, the one I specifically remember was my music zine. Sending out clips of my current favorite songs paired with horrible graphics designed on adobe photoshop 6 (not cs6, JUST 6!) At 13 scrapbooking took over and I started working in a camera store teaching teen classes. I was making my own layouts, centering, straightening, making sure elements were consistent. Around 15 I purchased my first point and shoot camera and from that moment on I have had a digital camera in my hand. I took photos at different school functions and had them published in the yearbook, took classes on photojournalism with the local paper and was published (admittedly I still have the articles.) When I graduated highschool I started my own photography business, and 10 years on I shoot all year! This all has lead me to Wild Hyacinth Design Studio. When life happens we do what we have to in order to survive. The one thing I have always known was art. WHDS started when my husband and I lost our jobs, he a chef and I a waitress. The owner shut down the restaurant unexpectedly and we were thrown into new territory not even a year after our wedding. Michael went back to school, then shortly after lost his unemployment. I was taking photos, working in a kitchen, and was not able to feed us or pay rent. My first ever batch of logos sold out in 15 minutes. When I told him I was so giddy with excitement, I had found my second calling. 3 years since that first batch we have a house, a beautiful daughter, and a life that just a short time ago seemed so out of reach. So there you have it. The history of Lauren in art, with a brain that is dipped in Lisa Frank and Alice in Wonderland, running on coffee, tattoos of colorful watercolor flowers, and Motion City Soundtrack playing through my headphones. Don’t let that put you off though, I am fluent in many styles because this is all I know! Love and hugs
